Education common core standards debate - Assignment Example Assuming the role of a high school principal, I would like to address some concerns with the execution of the Common Core State Standards (CCSS).This initiative was formed with very good intentions aimed at helping the learners’ right from the high school stage all through post-high school level. The main goal of this initiative was to come up with high standards that are consistent across states. The stakeholders in the formation of this initiative were a board of state governors, a private consulting firm and the council of school officers. The goals of the initiative were all beneficial, but the main issue is with the implementation. The initiative, if well implemented will assist many scholars. This is because it pays special emphasis on the students with special needs. According to Haager and Vaughn (2013), the adoption of this initiative will erase some of the differences between general education and special education. It will solve the problem of students with special needs having to travel from one state to another which has been disrupting the learning of such students (p. 6). Considering that it will be implemented in all the states, the problem will be of the past. The United States department of education was not directly involved in the formation of the initiative, but it has been trying to compel the states to adopt and implement the initiative. This has led to some states opting not to implement the standards, either due to lack of sufficient funds to run the standards or due to political reasons. Special educators will also take time to undergo an intensive training on the interpretation of the CCSS, which may further drag the implementation of the program.
